    Showing the top few names and the user’s own position hides the stagnant middle, where most people sit, so the ranking feels aspirational rather than discouraging.

    Why a shrinking board is more intense than a growing one

    A board that removes the bottom players each round creates loss pressure that a growing board cannot, because being cut feels worse than not climbing.
